Anime Review #5: Neon Genesis Evangelion

Temporary departure from hiatus.

Despite all the claim this series is overrated, I beg to differ. This has been quite an amazing show, I will say!

Characters/Cast: 10/10

Neon Genesis Evangelion has probably one of the best set of characters in anime history! Containing a pool of likeable characters including Shinji Ikari, Rei Ayanami, Asuka Langley Soryu, and Misato Kitsuragi, this show really gave life to characters which can also relate to the viewer watching it! Demonstrating struggle through brutal times, Evangelion displays characters who undergo excellent development throughout the 26 episodes!

Plot/Storyline: 10/10

A very dark yet likeable story. Not only is the show about teenagers in mechs fighting giant monsters, but also the inside stories of those three teens, too. Behind the three main characters: Shinji, Rei, and Asuka, lies a story about them so powerful, it really catches the attention of the viewers. One may either relate to the story very well, or they will be totally confused by it.

Atmosphere: 9/10

I would've given this show a perfect rating. However, there were quite a few flaws while watching the show. Despite all the amazing animation which is comforting for the eyes, Evangelion had quite a weird soundtrack. Aside from the opening, there were numerous times throughout episodes and movies with unfitting music and scenes breaking the fourth wall. Aside from that, everything else about Evangelion is amazing when one does watch the show.

Overall Rating: 9.7/10

_____________________

Neon Genesis Evangelion is not a show for everybody, sadly. If you've seen Gundam, Code Geass, or Eureka 7 this anime isn't really like those. Evangelion tries to look into your heart and affect you deeply and it will have an effect on you after watching the whole series. It don't recommend it to children, but it's something for everybody to watch at a certain point in their life.
